Sunday

I want what they have.

I totally am in love with this dinnerware set by...you never guess who...Rachel Bilson. I adore designs with themes of nature and I think this adopts a unique perspective, concentrating on the colours blue and purple with clean white backgrounds; a more sophisticated take on old-fashioned floral designs. My favourites are the Peacock, not sure what it is but it would look great anywhere, and the little bird salt and pepper set that reminds me of something from a Disney movie. Naturally, this is only available in Macys which is a little too far for me...one more thing that the Americans have that I want.

Saturday

Biutiful

I am a huge fan of Spanish cinema and as a lover of all things Spanish, it is always a must to see the latest export in cinema. Thankfully, living in Edinburgh this is quite easy and last night I went to the Filmhouse, an arty, independent cinema to see this masterpiece. I knew to expect a film brimming with artistic style, European cinema always does, nevertheless, this film blew me away. Javier Bardem's performance was seamless, completely capturing the attention of the audience ( everyone was completely silent and motionless ) and delivering a powerful story of life. The story is powerful, compelling, humorous, tragic and captures all the emotions of being alive. I particularly enjoyed the magical realism that Iñárritu adopted in the film, something that dominates Spanish literature, here it defined the magical elements that blur between the interior and exterior, presenting the spiritual and beautiful dimension in life. Although an intense 2 hours, this is a must see.

Friday

New year, New you.

I'm a bit late on that front but 2011 is going to be a new me, a new everything. My first post is about the lovely Sunday girl who, after randomly finding on Spotify, I have fallen in love. This girl is gorgeous and her voice even more so. I am particularly loving her track Self control, and the French Soler remix - a perfect party tune. Jade ( Sunday girl) is everywhere right now and is proving to be a new style muse with a polished look with masculine influences; buttoned shirt, shorts, blazers. Absolutely loving the cream/light yellow dress in the top right corner...can summer hurry up please!

Wednesday

Caught in the eye of the storm.

At the moment I am completely caught up in my new madrilena life; it is so chaotic adapting to a new culture, finding yourself in a new city and starting from scratch. I feel so many emotions. Inspiration from new surroundings, excitements as I discover new places and perspectives but that comes with tiredness, frustration and disappointment as I realise nothing really does run smoothly and organisation isn't particularly part of the spanish culture. I become more and more aware at the personality I portray as I cautiously approach new people, trying to make friendships.

However, one thing I do enjoy is seeing the way the spanish, and in particular way the women of Madrid dress. There is such a range from tailored middle aged women to the joven, dressed in structured, well thought out clothes with neutral palettes, simple shapes and casual attire whilst still maintainings that sophisticated look that I am so jealous of.

Due to my lack of time and energy, I haven't been taking such care with my outfit choices and so I turn to Vogue Italia to bring out a new celebrity muse. Dakota Fanning, not the obvious choice for inspiration , certainly steps up her game in this recent spread in Vogue. With her heavy brows and a plait that Wang would be proud of, she looks delicate but strong. I truly hope that this is the start of a new Fanning that we haven't yet seen, taking over as a fashion icon.

Sunday

Whirlwind of memories

Touring with Tomassi, packing for Madrid and leaving my stamp with a kisss. Check out my awesome shot of James crowd surfing - possibly the peak of my photography skills. The holographic cat stickers were a must to decorate the merch stall and Will's mulberry bag ( his precious) was the essential photo of the tour - drummer, charmer of women and appreciator of fashion. I'm excited for Madrid but also sad to be leaving such awesome friends and good times.

Tuesday

Beam me up..

SETAREZ MOHTAREZ.
I am absolutely in love with this designer, talk about escapism in fashion. The shapes are beautiful, structured, stiff material with waves and swirls, the one above is reminiscent of 50s glamour, but with the print of a galaxy, bringing it into the new age. I am a sucker for cosmology print and combined with the bright colours, oh my, speechless.

Monday

oh Hello ghost.

For 3 months I have lived in Portugal, Porto to be exact. It is so refreshing to be in a different surrounding; the new culture, language and perspectives have all had a huge influence on my outlook of life.

PORTO. The Azul mosaics on churches, the endless tiles that line the houses and the mish-mash of colours strewn across buildings create a feel of vibrance, even through the winter fog and monsoon rain. I have noticed this has influenced my own style and I take more care of using different patterns and colours, appreciating solid colours or delicate designs. Its great living the mediterranean lifestyle, it really makes you LIVE.
